Yup although I knew the turbo was good--no play,no oil leaks, etc. but was thinking maybe I messed up on my cleaning or a bad unison ring or vgt. FTE guys said it was ebp to begin with. At least I know what the inside of our turbos look like and am confident in my cleaning skills now
They said it looked good.
The VGT is a new animal to me. Is there a certain time period or mileage that a cleaning should be done or is it more like - "wait till it acts up first" type of things......

I was asking myself the same question after cleaning mine. I still haven't been able to decide......

Beats me as to when. I have 161K+ on mine and when I split it had only a couple of places I could feel buildup but that was it. I drive it daily at sped and temp so it doesn't sit much.
So putting the truck in the shop tomorrow to get the studs done and turbo sorted out. I could buy a decent commuter car for the price but who the heck wants that lol. More to come--just hopefully all good.
If your looking for an absolute bulletproof cheap commuter car...find a 98-02 Toyota corolla. They are absolute awesome cars an can be found anywhere from 500-2000$. I have a 98 w/ 290K and I beat the car relentlessly. 10K oil changes and no timing belt(timing chain) to frig with. I've convinced several people I work with to buy them and they have been very happy with them.

What were the problems you were having with your turbo?
Basically a bad ebp sensor. I did do a clean on the turbo but that didn't fix it. I knew the ebp was bad from coolant soak but didn't mess with it because I was putting it in the shop for hg and studs.
