Does anyone know what it takes or how to get the temp display to work on a 2002 Explorer XLS? The ambient temp sensor is already under the hood, and the display is already on the dash. Is there a wiring harness that is missing?
That's not the sensor under the hood. The sensor is located behind the front bumper right by the driver side frame rail. And if that's what you are talking about and your X didn't have the temp displayed before, that's just a dummy sensor, even though it looks the same as the real one. In order to make it work, you would have to put a real sensor in there. As for the display, I'm not to firmiliar with the '02's on that.
Yes, that is the one I was talking about. Are you sure it is a dummy sensor? The climate control system needs the ambient temperature sensor to function, I believe. And Brad, the XLS model has the display in the dash (can see the power on test) but doesn't have the temp or compass displays active. I bought an auto-dimming mirror and compass module, but haven't installed them yet to see if that will enable the compass display.
Well, I installed the compass module, and still no compass display in the information center. There must be another wiring harness that I am missing. Surprisingly, the harness I bought to connect the lighted vanity mirrors and overhead console, did not have the electrochromatic mirror plug, and I was sure that would be the same harness.
