Program wireless remote

I have a 97 F250 7.3L and wondering if someone has issues with programming wireless entry remote,. I tried the one posted on the net with the off and on 8 times of the ignition... I get nothing. So I went to the 96 and it shows a program connector on bottom of steering column that I cross connect the two wire momentarily. That actually entered the program mode because the door lock locked and unlocked... is suppose to indicate I'm in programming mode. However none of the systems actually finish. The last one is suppose to activate the lock and unlock again when I turn the ignition off but it doesn't and the remote doesn't work either. Anyone know what I could try. I've replaced the batteries in the remote... and the remote that does work the locks still does. I wanted a second one that works and since I have one for a different truck I thought I'd make it work for this one.

These are the instruction for the 1997 F250: First get in Vehicle close all doors and make sure doors are unlocked. 2) Switch ignition from OFF to On 8 times within 10 seconds (on the 8th time leave the key in the on position). 3) Doors should Lock the Unlock indicating you are in program mode. 4)Within 7.5 seconds press any key on first remote transmitter. Doors should lock then unlock indicating process completed. 5)If additional transmitter desired repeat procedure #2 until a maximum of 4 remotes are finished. Then turn off ignition. Note: if door locks do not operate: Wait a few seconds and press the button again. Door Should Lock the Unlock.

These are the instruction for the 1996 F250: 1) Turn ignition to Run or Acc position. 2) Momentarily jump pins in programming connector located at the base of the Steering Column. All doors will lock then unlock to confirm programming mode. 3)Press any button on the first keyless remote, Doors will Lock and Unlock to confirm Programming. 4)IF programming a second remote press any key on second remote. Doors will cycle again to confirm programming. 5) Turn off ignition. Locks will again cycle to indicate end of programming mode.

Even tho my truck is a 1997 the only process that does anything is the instruction for 96. However: it locks do not cycle to indicate remote is programmed and when I turn ignition off it does not cycle the locks either. The first procedure does nothing at all. Anyone know of a different procedure that I might try?

The remote was from my 98 F250. But the instructions to get it programmed was the same for my 97 F250 that's why I figured it would work but my 97 won't program that way. It never cycles the locks like the instructions says it will.

i don't think the 98 and newer remotes are the same as the 97 and older ones.
if i remember correctly they operate on a different frequency.
i know the remotes from the 97 grand marquis would not work on the 99 crown vics.

Hello.

Only the remotes that have the words LOCK and UNLOCK written on the buttons work with the OBS trucks.

The way to program them is the one where you short out the gray connector.

If the remote has the icons instead of the words they will not work with the OBS RKE (remote keyless entry)

Their is some newer body style f-250s that look like the 97 model 150 that may use the newer remote.

I don't know why yours won't finish the learning process.

Can you lock or unlock the doors with the working FOB while the engine is running? From the factory you are not supposed to be able to use the fob while the engine is running.

I run into that quite a bit. Seems my 97 fits a lot of parts same as 96;;;;;while others parts are a match with the 98 thru 03. guess that them using part of the left over parts from previous year and new stuff for new models... Like the door wind deflectors. Non fit my truck door and back window.,. Except 96 back.

I looked and you are correct. The one fob that works has the wording on it and the one that I'm trying to get to work has the icons. Must be the reason. If this one has words and it is the old style that system is likely the old style system and the reason it won't program via the key. If it would have been the icon style the key switching back and forth would be the way to program it... Great. Thanks for the help.

About Programming Mode for Keyfob

I opened my driver door and locked and unlocked my vehicle and followed the directions for keyfob programming. It worked like a champ. Good instructions!
