I screwed up. My high lift fuel pump went out and started spraying fuel. I purchased a new one. Was putting it in and the plunger from the bottom of pump fell down into hole in top of motor. Sound like it fell for ever. Now my truck is really down. Is there a good chance that it fell all the way to oil pan. Or where is it at??? Do I have to completely tear motor apart to find it?

It's happened to lots of people. I have yet to hear of anyone having to pull the motor because of it though. I would personally turn the motor I've by hand first just to make sure it didn't catch on anything

Do what Nick said and turn it over by hand first. It will get to the pan. If you want to you can put a magnet on the outside of the pan and it will stay in place.

Thanks all. That worked, I turned truck over and it didn't sound like it fell but when I drained oil I found it. Now as soon as I can find another plunger (tappet) I can get my truck running again. Thanks again.

The new fuel pump should have come with the tappet.

The new pump came with the tappet. That is the crazy part. The old pump which was broke and the tappet was broke off in top of motor, I got it out with out it going in the motor. It was the new tappet that literally fell out of bottom of pump and went into motor!!!

Sorry, I re-read your first post and saw it was the new one that fell in. LOL! I was thinking it was the old one fell out while you were removing the pump. Hopefully you don't have to buy another new pump just to get the tappet.

Wow, i've never heard of them falling out of a new pump, That really sucks.

I have one in my oil pan from a previous owner.
I see it changing the oil every now and then.
