I've gone and done it friends.
I was replacing my fuel pump and the plunger was still in the hole, when I grabbed it with the magnet it shot down the passenger side of the hole. I can't see it and when I stuck the magnet down inside a little I could not feel it.
So is there something I can do or am I screwed?
its not happened to me...but I have read some folks turn the motor over by hand slowly and you can hear it hit the oil pan...someone with more experience will chime in...my pump was installed last week and the plunger came out with the pump....good luck!!
One of the guys on here has his laying in the pan just because of that. I'd crank over the ignition slowly by hand to make sure nothing is binding then put a permanent magnet on the pan to hold it there and go if it were me. Heck, I lost an allen wrench while doing my injectors, I think its inside the motor somewhere, looked for many hours in and around the motor and didn't find it.
I feel your headache, I pulled my turbo last nite and dropped a nut in the pass intake, I know, why didnt I have a rag in them.. I was able to pull the manifold and retrieve it with a magnet. As for a good magnet that is y enough I broke apart an old cam sensor and it had a little magnet that is quite powerful, I pinched it with a cable claw and it worked very well.
