There is almost no difference (in the driver seat) between Hydra and F6. The key difference between the two platforms is DP was historically proprietary - only DP could tune DP stuff. Hydra was "born" an open platform, so many tuners have adopted the Hydra, emailing tunes all the live long day to customers.

Since Hydra stormed onto market about 2 years ago, there has been far more people on the forums talking about the Hydra they bough vs. those with a new DP. I have read that DP version 2 is now open - possibly in response to the loss of market share to the Hydra.
  • I have not yet read about anybody anxious to go from Hydra to the DP V1 or V2 F6
  • I have read about many people going from DP V1 (F5 and F6) to Hydra - with no real return on the DP hardware.

I am now raising my hand. I personally know a few people (including myself) that have practically given their DP away after taking a risk and buying the Hydra - while already owning a DP V1.

It would be nice to know exactly how many other tuners tune on the DP V2 platform, and who they are. This forum's two most common recommended tuners for the Hydra are Tony Wildman at Total Diesel Performance and Matt at Gearhead.

AE used to be the go-to software that was about as inexpensive as one could get for a decent scan tool. AE has since come out with the Giotto version, with several critical drawbacks vs. the earlier versions. FORScan is a beta program for Windows PCs, and I feel it's a more useful product than AE because of convenience - and my much-faster Bluetooth OBDII adapter versus the AE USB adapter.
