I am new here, but one thing that really strikes me is the incredible amount of programmed trucks vs chipped trucks. Keep in mind I am talking 7.3 PSD's. I know the 6.0's see much more improvement from programmers than 7.3's. I frequent many diesel forums (mostly Ford) and I have talked with way more people running chips than programmers. So this site has my curiosity going.
I am wondering for what reason you chose a programmer over a chip.
Thanks for the feedback,
Tom
P.S. I am not looking to buy a programmer. I am very happy with my custom 6 pos. chip . I am just wondering.
Well, I got the Diablosport Programmer because I got a killer deal for it. However, if I did any serious hauling I'd definantly go with a multi-position chip. Especially one from Jody Tipton.
I liked the idea of a switchable chip, but I really didn't want to be so easily tempted to "up the ante", plus I am not the only person to drive my truck,(my wife drives it alot). I KNOW she would be flipping to the kill setting every time she saw a ricer. ;D
I also liked the code reader/ability to clear codes with my Predator.

I forgot about the code reader option. I will see if I can add it to the poll.
Thanks,
Tom
On Edit: I cannot seem to add it now. Mods if you read this, please let me know how to add it. Thanks
1: the code read/clear ability
2: the ease of installation
3: i can reset to stock easilly if needed
4: i don't have all the mods on my truck yet and when i get a chip i want it set up for the EXACT package that i have in my truck... whatever that ends up being
5: until i DO get all the mods on my truck and get it just the way i want it, i still want to be able to dial in some extra power for dailly driving and for towing and i liked the setup on the predator... i was intrigued by the edge juice w/attitude, but i prefer analog gauges that you can "read at a glance" as opposed to numerical values that you really do have to read... by that i mean, if you know your max line on your pyro gauge is 1200* and that is at 3 o'clock on your gauge, then you only need to glance at the gauge to see if you are ok or you're getting close to that redline... just personal preference...
My truck came with an SCMT already on it. The couple minutes it takes to program the truck is no big deal to me really. I also like the code reader feature. I like my tuner just fine, especially since I didn't actually have to go out and spend money on it. I run it on the high-perf setting all the time except when I am towing. Hard to believe that nearly 8000-pound truck will leave the line like it does. BTW, since I don't have guages yet, I just tow using the stock setting for now.........
