Ive seen ceramic coated downpipes, stock is a dual pipe, would it be a good idea to wrap the down pipe with heat wrap tape? Installing a 4" down pipe soon and would like to get it done if it is a good idea. 6.4l powerstoke f250
Its not a bad idea, but its not going to gain you much. I would highly suggest getting a turbo blanket and wrapping up pipes first, but it does always help keep heat out of the motor.
We have seen a few trucks running big tunes that have seen slightly lower egts during wot runs. However there is very little change when driving around town or on the freeway. Again, the up pipes and turbo will lower under hood heat though.
I am going to wrap my up pipes when my cab goes up for a motor build. Keeping the heat out of the engine bay is always good, I know of a few guys that have wrapped/insulated the exhaust manifolds as well... Not sure I am going to go that far, but I am interested in containing heat some. Even if it doesn't do much for performance, at least in my case.
CrazySOB, I see you have the X4. I just ordered mine from Rudy's, called them and they said PIP writes the tunes for the X4 they sell, do you have any experience with punch it? I know they make their own tuner, but wanted to go with the X4 just incase I wanted to order other tunes. Also 4 down pipe and 5" back pipes, and AFE 5r drop in filter...I'm a plastic bender so I'll be fabing something for the air box.
PIP has great tunes, far better than River City Diesel. I have been wanting to get a set of their tunes for a while now, just have other things to spend money on atm. I haven't driven a pip tuned 6.4 though, only Gearhead, RCD, and Spartan... Out of all of them the Spartan tunes are by far the best.
I highly suggest QuickTricks if you can get your hands on their tunes though... You will need a shop that works with them though, they no longer sell delete tunes to the general public. But Vivian writes the best tunes on the market hands down for a 6.4...
Longview1, you lucky…ill be working from underneath my transmission. What up pipes are you running?
Would you consider yourself lucky if you had the cab off anyway because you were doing HPFP, injectors and such? Sorry, I just had to throw that out there!
Might be worth giving SCT a call and asking them. Like I said, I had it come up once but it never caused any issues. When it flashed the message I just put it back to the stock tune then retuned.
