I have a 1996 F-250 with 232,882 Miles and I had my buddy (WyoTech Diesel Mechanic) put a new clutch, pressure plate, fly wheel, throw out bearing, master cylinder, and slave cylinder less than 800 miles ago. All brand new. For the past week Id be driving and while I press down the gas the rpms jump up faster than normal as it would do if I tapped my clutch in while I was driving but my clutch is working perfectly when I actually do push the clutch in. Shifts perfect, starts up perfect and last night it got worse and when i was driving the rpms would be 2000 rpm more than normal then I got up to fifth gear and it was red lining going 30mph so I let off hoping it would catch but when I let off it basically engaged fully and I couldn't move at all in any gear. I was on the side of the road and I could shift through each gear with the truck running and not using the clutch at all without any grinding. Any clue what this is? I need my truck daily for work. Thanks y'all
Sounds to me like it is DISengaged. You did not say but I assume this is a ZF5 trans with external slave? The first thing I would do is make sure your trans is still firmly bolted to the block. If that is OK, then release the hydraulic pressure at the slave (open the bleed valve) to make sure it is not locked somehow. If that does not let the clutch engage, then you are going to have to take it back apart to see what has failed.
Sounds like the clutch was put in improperly and you smoked the disc and/or the clutch cylinders were not properly bled.
Transmission definitely needs to come back out as your clutch is certainly cooked. Flywheel likely got severely overheated and will need to be resurfaced or replaced too.
Don't know too about the trucks with a standard trans. but if you can tap the clutch pedal and it slips the rod is too long. You got some pedal free play? Could be a bad pressure plate too.
Everything was perfect for about a month till now I'd be completely off the clutch and it would be slipping and now I got nothing and yes I'm pretty sure it is the ZF5

Which engine do you have? If it's a 351, or possibly a 300 or 302, it would have an internal slave cylinder.
If a 460 or diesel engine it would have an external slave cylinder. It could possibly be something with the release fork, if you have an external slave cylinder.
If it was a problem with linkage the clutch would be applied all the time and would not slip. Unless you smoked the clutch slipping it on take off for using it to hold the truck on the hill you probably have a pressure plate problem it's also not likely but possible you have a disc problem
