..Yes.. Performance Automatic's AODE/4R70W system..: Performance Automatic
On the CJ Pony Parts offering, it's just an AOD.
But maybe the lowest buck way to get an AODE/4R70W is to opt for an adapter from Bendtsen's, a controller from Baumann (or whatever their name is now), and a decent 4R70W (with a black connector and two-bolt starter mount according to Ultraranger).. ....$600 for a controller and harness, $850 for an adapter plate, and like I dunno.. $300 for a transmission? The latter would still be a box of chocolates so let's assume $250 for a rebuild kit plus a new torque converter for the same amount. That's around $2,250.

I went to their shop, in person, and bought the rebuild kit, 2500 stall converter, etc. and various parts to rebuild my 4R with myself. I still lack a few items, mainly new shift solenoids to complete the rebuild.
I picked up my wrecking yard '98 4R70W transmission, stock converter, stock transmission wiring harness, block plate and dipstick/tube from U-Pullit-It in Little Rock, AR for $138.00.
At the time I bought my transmission shift controller (2012 or '13), it was called an 'Optishift' and the company name at the time was Baumann Electronic Controls. Right after I bought my controller, the company name changed to 'U.S. Shift' and the controller was relabelled as the 'Quick 1.' --it's the same controller as what I have. It just has a different face plate.
Outside of whatever it takes to mount the transmission behind whatever engine a person might have, the 4R70W will work with either a fuel injected engine or with carburetion and you'll need a stand-alone shift controller.
The other thing you'll need is a TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) on the throttle plate --whether that's on a throttle body for an EFI engine or, whether a TPS is adapted/mounted to the throttle shaft on a carburetor. The shift controller has to have a throttle position input signal back to the controller.
....some photos and description of the 4R70W transmission I have.

Thanks for that info. I'm going to start looking into that. Also the GV unit, I just had this C6/torque converter rebuilt and the GV sounds like one of two good options here.
I don't have an FE in my truck so, don't know what all needs to be gathered/done there. My '69 Ranger just came with a little 240 inline six. I have a '90 Mustang GT 5.0L H.O. fuel injected engine the 4R70W can be installed behind or, I have an early 351W I could fuel inject instead, to install in front of the 4R70W.

Nice job on tackling a trans rebuild yourself. I would most likely farm that out
..I see on the adapter kits, it does come with a new flexplate and starter, so good to know..
Thanks!

I may be pinging you in the future if I go this route. You have a build thread on this?

The rebuild is very straight forward. Feel free to PM me anytime I love to help when I can.

BTW I almost went with the MSD Atomic system but at the last minute switched to the holley setup as it was offering a better timing setup at the time. I'm glad you like yours it is a nice system.
