Can someone please tell me what the "port/threaded hole" to the right of the oil filter adapter is on my stock 302 block (see attachment)? It faces horizontal towards the drivers side and is on between the two freeze plugs. I'm not sure if I need to block it or just leave it. If I shine a light inside it appears it might be open to a water jacket.
It's a drain plug. Do install a pipe threaded plug or your will have a coolant leak the minute you start filling the cooling system. It's there so you can drain the block of coolant when you flush the system. Most people don't remove it as something is always in the way, like motor mounts, exhaust, etc. and them can't get to in when the engine is in the car.
