Hey everyone I just bought a 92 e250 with 5.8 and e4od transmission. Bought it knowing it needed a new radiator but was told it was never overheated or ever ran for more then few moments after. Well that ended up being bull**** and the head gaskets are cooked. Appears a good used motor will be cheaper then machine shop costs and parts plus less time.
Car-part. Com shows 89 to 93 as direct interchange. I know 93 to 96 f350 still used obd1 speed density efi. Does anyone know the differences? Can I use the newer roller ready motor and just use my wiring, intake and distributor?
Thanks in advance any insight would be very helpful.
The cam changed in '94 to a roller but there is nothing about it that would make it unsuitable for the EFI system in your truck so that is the vintage motor('94-97) I would suggest getting as a replacement.
Rule #1 of engine swaps is never use any wiring that comes with a donor motor, so if you get a complete runner from another truck remove the upper intake and disconnect all wiring that is attached, and reattach the factory original wiring harness in your truck after the motor is bolted in place. If you buy a reman longblock then the intake, wiring, distributor and accessories will bolt right on with one exception, you need to remove the cast iron distributor drive gear and install a steel gear.
