My 16 year old F250 4X4 diesel has developed a problem with no backup lights working, and the vacuum pump is not getting power. The fuse (#28) checks out OK, and I'm told to check for a broken wire on or near the backup switch. I don't know where to locate the backup switch. I have the huge Ford Service manuals, but they are written with the perspective that you should already know where the switches are. Can someone tell where to find the switch? Any other trouble shooting suggestions will be most welcome.
For vac pump you will probably have to trace continuity of power harness.
For the reverse wires, the range sensor on the trans (assuming auto) has a blk and pink tracer wire off it for chassis reverse. Check that for power. If that checks out, there is a black with green tracer wire that runs from the fuse panel to the reverse for trailer plug and drivers kick panel. Check that one as well because if that gets power then the range sensor is sending a signal
Thanks-a-ton Guys, this is an automatic tranny. I thought the switch would be obvious, but it may look more like a sensor than a switch. Is it possible that the what I'm looking for could be combined with the neutral safety switch?

Well, neutral safety switch is jumpered so the neutral sens is at the range sensor.
