any help would be great
oh my fuses are good and i tested the lead no power on either

Jared, Did you check the wire with the ign. switch in the on position? I am not sure about your problem, but I know that the switch has to be on for earlier model brake lights to work.

In the cool still quiet of night you can hear chevies rusting away.
there is also a backup light switch and that may need replacing. you may have to call around a little as not all parts places carry them. i found one for my 72 at an O'Reilly Auto Parts here in Austin, TX for $40 something.

The switch should have 12 volts in on one side and when truck is in reverse, switch actuated, 12 volts out to backup lights. jowilker is right the key has to be set to "on" to get power.
The backup lights get there ground at the rear of the truck, same place the tail-lights/brake lights/ turn signals get their ground, usually depending on what mods have been done by previous owners
cashmoline is correct the reverse switch may be broken. However, since you don't have 12 volts to the switch it would be hard to tell, unless you actuate the switch and check for continuity thru it with an ohnmeter. Or actuate the switch when you have 12 volts to it and see if you get 12 volts out of it. 12 in and none out dead switch, or the switch isn't being actuated by the tranny.
Dfisher1 I think that the neutral safety switch is only used on automatics, and it was just a "handy" place to mount the reverse light switch Same rod actuates the starter disable switch and the reverse light switch.
thanks guys I just had the trans redone with all new switches and
I'm would hope they work i think my problem is in the wire to the switch all my fuses are good and no power i am tracing the wire for the switch to the fuse and hope to find the problem in the somwhere Is there a fusable link anywhere on these lines anyone know
thanks again

Nope shouldn't be a fusible link, note I said shouldn't can't promise what previous owners have added
Should be a black wire withe a red stripe direct to fuse box thru 1 connector just forward of the firewall on the drivers side just above the inner fender....
AH HA!!!! Maybe this connector was disconnected during the tranny work. Worth a look.
