so the turbo is two impellers (fans) on a single shaft. exhaust gases spin one of the impellers and that rotational energy is transfered to the other impleller which spins and increases the aire flow into the engine. a computer is programmed to mix fuel based on temp, air presure, etc. So having a leak between the exhuast manifold and the turbo will reduce the exhuast pressure and interfere with the correct amount of intake air and proper fuel/air ration mix as controlled by the computer. The 6.4 has 2 turbo's and the interrelationships are a little more complicated but the basic theory is the same.

Thanks for the info. I did fail to mention that it stalls on occasion when in park or in drive but only at idle speed not sure what is going on and if this leak is part of the problem but it's frustrating as hell.
