I've had a few sets of the KOs. In December I got my first set of KO2s. I never had KOs on the truck that now has the KO2s, so that might affect my comparisons a bit, but with that in mind, here are my thoughts.
I don't like the looks of the KO2s. The aggressively treaded sidewalls would look stupid on my wife's Escape, and make my crew cab look like a rock-crawler wanna-be. Maybe 1% of the buyers of this tire can use that tread 1% of the time. I wish they wouldn't have done that.
Compared to the mis-matched tires previously on my crew cab (half worn all-season radials on the front, worn out highway treads on the rear), the KO2s seem to "track" with pavement imperfections more. It takes more effort to keep the truck going straight. However I don't know how this compares to the old KO design.
Snow and ice traction with the KO2s seems great! I almost can't get the back end of my truck to kick out on packed snow (I couldn't keep it behind the front with the worn out highway tires). I've always liked BFG A/Ts, but these seem better than the KOs.
And to some extent it's a moot point anyway, because the KOs aren't available anymore.

I agree with this 100%. It looks to me like they want to compete with the Nitto Terra-Grappler or whatever it's called, which is stupid b/c BFG sells way more with the KO. I think the KO is the best looking A/T tire ever and now they have ruined it. I am thinking about trying to get a leftover set of KOs for my truck for the next time I need tires. I have KOs on it now but they still have about 20K miles left in them.
I had an older set of KO's on my truck that were starting to develop pretty deep dry-rot cracks in the sidewalls. Since I tow, I decided to just get a new set. Ended up going with the KO2's and I like them so far. I haven't had any snow or ice to drive on but they do well in the mud and dirt around here.
I can kind of see what you mean about the tread on the sidewalls, but I like the way they look and I don't care what other people think about my truck.
They are starting to make beads to beads so full tires and not just re-caps. I am not sure if they even sell the recaps anymore. They have the KO tread in 31/10.5/15 for 104.99+tax (if your in TX like me) and shipping. I would see if you can get the bead to bead 31/10.5/15s in that tread for that price.
I have the KO2s on my 2012 F150. I am not the biggest fan of the new sidewall design either but they ride pretty good. That said I have not had the KOs on this same truck to compare. I have ran sets of KOs on previous trucks I have owned.
I also think they look pretty good on my truck. I would post but I think that would not be right to post a newer gen truck in the OBS section.
