I am ordering Pro Comp Xtreme all terains for my 1999 Ford F-250 superduty regular cab althogh I need to know if they will have any problems clearing my bone stock setup they will be:
Pro Comp Xtreme All terains size LT285/75R16
Is this a wise setup and choice of tire?
They are going to be replacing my bfgoodrinch all terains that were LT235/75R16. I decided to go with the pro comps after looking around the internet a little bit and deciding that there a little better choice also I'm hoping the little extra diamter tire will fill out the wheel wells better and give me a little help when I take it off-road and in the snow.
I only take it offroad about once a month for a little bit maybe twice. Thanks for any help!!
i had procomp 285/75s x-terrains on my truck (96)...the first 1/2" of snow that fell the tires came off my truck. I liked them offroad in gravel and muck.....but they were the absolute worst tire/driving experience ive ever had for/in snow, and Ive driven a 400hp f150 with bald (totally smooth) tires and a welded rear end in the snow.
Plus they wore horribly fast, i put 10,000 miles on them and burnt 35-40% off. Do your self a favour and get something more street friendly, Ive got goodyear wranglers on my truck now, they are awsome, totally awsome in the snow, and they do well offroad. On gravel just as good as the procraps, not quite as good in the muck tho.
I have 285/75/16 x terrains on my wife 2000 F150 4x4. They rubbed just a little bit when they were new.... You should not have a problem.
I will agree with what Pud said. They are possibly the worse tires I have ever had on anything.... it's a close one and two with a set of pro comp MT's that I have on the jeep. I got less than 15K miles out of the MT's on a jeep.... they are great off road but the wear on the road is the fastest I have ever seen. The X terrains are comming off this week with only 10 to 15% tread left on 2 of the tires and the other two are completely bald.... they have 20K miles on them, give or take a few thousand. I missed a rotation cycle... thus the 2 bald tires. I will never put another set of pro comps on a vehicle that will get any significant road time. The x terrains were not that great offroad either...
I'm not slamming pro comp, because the MT's really are very good offroad and the x terrains ... well, they look cool and are better than the average AT's offroad. I bet the mud boggers could make some really good cut tires out of them.
I just put on a set of Maxxis BigHorns on my Bronco and have ordered another set to go on the F150 this week.... they ride really nice and are silent on the road compaired to the pro comp's. I have limited offroad time on them so I can't say if they are as good as the pro comp MT's in that arena, but they clear the mud at least as well.
If they last on the road like the buckshots do, I'll have a real winner.... not to mention they are much much less money than the pro comp's
Thanks for the help guys...A couple more questions though how do the LT265/85R16 do? I might end up going with the bfgoodrinch all terains being I can't find a good deal on the pro comp's and seeing as they are aparently not as good and lasting tread life as I thought, does anyone know of a good deal on them? I'm only looking to spend about $700.
A 285/75R16 will clear, but I never heard of a 265/85R16, only a 235/85R16: which is about 31.5" tall, and pretty skinny, but it would also fit good on your truck.
get the 285/75 size, ive seen many a s/d with em on...and if they dont fit pop an AAL in the front.
BFG a/ts are a good street tire. If you do much snow driving you might want to consider something with more siping in the tread. There are better tires than the BFG a/ts IMO, especially considering the cost...theyre no cheaper than a pro-comp. Im not trying to be a goodyear salesman here, but ive been very impressed with the tires I have by them and suggest you go find a G/Y dealer and take a look at time of their tires....or check them out here http://www.goodyear.ca/goodyeartires...ea=Light+Truck
the ones I have are the 3rd down, the Wrangler Silent Armor.
I paid 564 shipped for my 285/75/16 Bighorns (ebay)... I think the buckshots are about $30 or so more.... I know for a fact you can get 30k out of the buckshots with only one rotation... probably a lot more with a better rotation schedule
