5th wheel Prep Kit Question

I have searched, but can't find an answer to my question. I hope someone here will have the information:

Will the 5th Wheel Prep package currently available from Ford fit on my 2003 F350 LB? It looks like the frame width matches, and my eyeball survey suggests that the mounting holes are in the right place in the frame. The dealer is no help, as their fit list does not include my vehicle.

Thanks for any help.

since all the beds are pretty much interchangeable I do believe it would.

I have not seen anyone add it to the older model trucks.

There are aftermarket kits for a hidden system out there that are known to work. That is what I would go with so as to know you have a correct fit.

If mine didn't come with the 5th wheel prep (which I have to take back to dealer it wont except the 5th wheel base) I would go with B&W system so basic and simple and still use the bed when not needing it.

If you added it to your truck you would be locked into a few expensive hitches or another adapter to make other hitches work, check out B&W like Scraprat suggested.

I'm pretty sure it won't as I believe the frames are a bit different in key locations.

Imo a bw or drawtite system would be way less headache and cost.

Which prep package where you looking at since there are slight differences in them from year change overs. On a long box frame Ford part#BC3Z-5F057-A will fit but modifications are required. the 2011 and up Ford F-250/F-350, if you can get one that has the 5th wheel/gooseneck towing prep package I would do that. The reason is that if you want the Reese Elite series equipment anyway, performing all of the installation of the mounting hardware will not be something you will have to worry about.
If you do not want to be limited to using an Elite series hitch or using an adapter and a different hitch, there are other options. You will need a slider hitch for the bed of truck.
Right now, the most popular option is a Pro Series 15K hitch, # PS30094, with Universal Installation Kit, #RP30035. You will want a hitch with the capacity to carry the trailer, so if a 15K is not enough, there are others with higher capacity.

I also recommend going with a custom installation kit, like # RP50073-58, as it installs in half the type of the universal one. You will also want to consider the round versus square sliders. Round tube sliders offer 12 inches of travel while square offers 10. Those 2 extra inches may be needed when making tight turns and maneuvers.
Hope this helps somewhat.

Here's the Reese page for their applications. You can see that some of these kits work for several years including yours up to 2010.
More then likely, Ford's kit that fits never models, might not work for you.

I coach a high school rowing team , and the trailer is a 40' gooseneck. Currently we have a B&W underbed, but plan to buy a 39' 5th wheel. So that my wife can install/remove the towing gear, we are looking at the Anderson Gooseneck Mount - Ultimate 5th Wheel Connection #3225. I like the idea of "factory" whenever possible, hence the question regarding retrofitting the factory prep kit.

I bought the anderson hitch also. It fits on the factory gooseneck perfectly and it is light and easy to install. One person can do it! I had a 5th wheel hitch on my last truck and i bought a used engine host so I could get it in and out of my truck. Also there are no rails in the bed of my truck now.
