Seam Sealer Question

Hi Guys! I'm working on getting my truck ready for paint, and I'm about to start working on the seams with seam sealer. I plan to re-do the drip rails, and the bed seams. But today I was looking at the seam across the front of the hood and it looks like it'll need attention too. Does that seam get seam sealer too? What about the seam across the top rear of the cab? Seam sealer there too?

Thanks!

The seam on the hood and the one above the back glass did not come from the factory with seam sealer.

Thanks! So what do most people do for that? Just clean it out and paint over it?

By the way Randle, your truck is awesome! I followed the build and have been watching the progress on the mustang. You do some awesome work.

Most people just clean and paint, if you want to go back original.

Use self leveling seam sealer for the drip rail. 3M or Valvoline plio grip. Comes out beautiful and won't shrink or crack.

I used sealer in the seam on bedside.....was always filling with water and collecting with dirt to form problems. I still have the seam just not as deep now. If you get some on area you don't want you can get off with soapy water before it cures, I had to sand some after it dried....

Thanks for the tip f100, I picked up some plio grip after reading about it on one of the threads.

Thanks yetiman, I'll be sure to pay attention to any excess and get it cleaned off before it cures.

I'm planning to run a test bead on some cardboard or something before I take it to the truck. Just to get a feel for it. Hopefully the body work will be mostly wrapped up by next week and it'll be ready for primer.

Is the part# 8009 the one for the drip rail?

I just looked up my order. I got #8009 high body seam sealer 12, and
#8010 self leveling seam sealer. I think the #8010 is for the drip rail, but I'll have to go back and look at my notes.

If and when I ever get to that point the seams on the hood and bedsides will disappear. Welded up and smoothed.

When I've replaced bad floor pans, I used 3M Fast N Firm sealer p/n 08505.

8010 for the drip rail. You must clean it then prime it. Make sure to let the primer at least flash before applying seam sealer. If it is warm out you need to work kinda fast; if it is cold you have a little more time. I actually used the 8010 for the horizontal part and 8050 for the vertical part. the 8010 will work for both but be aware the 8010 will run down fast. However if you apply it generously enough to fill the seam in there on the vertical it will come out very nice. When it starts to set up you can work it with a popsicle stick or whatever to give it the shape it needs. You have to work fast. But unlike the stuff in a single tube, it does not "skim over" so your tool time is much longer. And after it sets up you can sand it to any shape you want.

Its hard to see but here is my gutter and the gutter I made on my cowl.

I thought about that too, but I'm trying to get the truck ready for our wedding in May and that will take a while. That makes for a clean look though.

Thank for the input. I've never used this stuff before so I'll take all the advice I can get. It's been cold here so hopefully the 8010 will work on the vertical. Your truck is so nice! I've been watching your build, the work you do is awesome!
