Rancho RS5000X - New Shocks

Hey all,

Wondering if anyone has run the new Rancho RS5000X on their super duty yet.

It seems like the old RS5000 is getting some new trickle down technology from their higher end models, and if so this might be a great new low cost shock option.

I just did all four corners about two months ago. The ride if fine. BUT, she seems to be a little loose for some reason. Kind of squirrely. It's not dangerous, I'm just not all that impressed. I thought they were gas charged when I bought them and they are not. Hope that helps. Bruce

Not sure on the 5000 series but just picked up some 9000xl today for my rig. Just front for now being kinda pricy for my budget but looking forward to installing them.

You used the RS5000X series right? Not the RS5000

Just making sure as there is quite a bit of info on here about the regular RS5000's.

Interesting info, nonetheless. Thanks for sharing

I was going to buy the Ranchos that came off a 2008 I think it was to replace my 2005 shocks but when I did further research I realized that Rancho produced a line of shocks for Ford that were not really that good. I don't know if the guy I was going to buy from had bad shocks because judging by what I know out here in California most buy the truck then lift it anyhow and the OEM are still damn near new. I still was not going to risk $65 on shocks used 3500 miles when they had bad reviews.

You made a good decision. The "Rancho" FX4 are in fact Motorcraft, and if you look at the catalog on RockAuto, for example, they are listed as Motorcraft parts.

Funny thing is, I still have the original black Motorcraft shocks on my 4X4 with 170K miles, so the 4X4 shocks seem to have faired better than the FX4 "rancho"s. It was an oil field truck, so it wasn't a grocery getter. But I think its time for a replacement.

The RS5000X is a gas charged shock.
Real cool video on this shock, kind of long, and has a lot of info in it, but still cool. Talks a lot about how our valve stack (amongst other things) sets this shock apart from others out there.

Could you elaborate on their application for a heavy duty truck? Obviously its not the 9000 series, but possibly a cost-effective alternative that will handle the weight and rigors of a super duty?

And thanks for chiming in, always nice to hear from the manufacturer.

So for most applications (250/350 newer models) we have all the new 5000X made and in the market. Especially the lifted/leveled applications. We are dragging on "stock" but we are launching 35 new applications Feb 1 (hopefully). Depending on the shock (stock or lifted) it will be valved for the different added weight.
And yes you are spot on as an "alternative" to the 9000/7000/ other popular monotubes. Over in the Jeep world (especially the new JK) a lot of guys are running these AFTER running the 9000XL, a Fox or a Bilstein and are loving the ride feel both off and on road. I know for us, our trucks aren't seeing the same trails as a Jeep, but it is performing well on fire roads.

Another thing about this shock is it is also covered by the same 90 day Ride guarantee, if you aren't happy return them for a refund.

TL/DR you are spot on as an affordable alternative to the RS9000XL.

Thank you for the update. I've seen JK drivers talking about them.. but that's like comparing a car to a tank.. so i didn't take much of their feedback into consideration for an F250.

I'll be keeping an eye out for stock height application as I am in the market for new shocks. I just need a shock that will be stable on the highway with a moderate load but be able to drive through mojave desert/death valley on the off-road/unimproved highways.
