Can anyone identify these shocks?
Auto-flex "Heavy Duty". Stamped... AB-80 Y9FA C8PF-1804 5- CC.
They are like new, with eyes on both ends and pretty short.
I may want to use them on the rear of my lowered '63 F100.
Thanks, Dan
The root prefix number tells us they are 1968 origin and the 3rd version of whatever application they were made for 38 years ago. . . . . FWIW, older shocks tend to be neutral pressure. They rely on internal valving & fluid viscosity to moderate ride quality of vehicles they are installed on. NOS shocks have a value for true restorers, the ones going to AACA and "Concours' de Elegance" type shows for points & judging.
To practical enthusiasts and dedicated affecienados seeking performance, ride quality, enhanced comfort & safety, I suggest new technology of todays gas over oil, buffered shocks, progressive loading gas filled or adjustable rate shocks available for our trucks. The new tech shocks are far superior for many reasons. They may not have nostalgia of "NOS" stuff but with the cost of everything on the rise, efficiency and performace capability, net end result and longevity are valuable considerations IMHO. . . . Also not running radial tuned style shocks with radial tires is a nightmare at road speed. Newer pressurized, gas over oil shocks are "RADIAL TUNED" while 1968 shocks were NOT.
