Again, my memory is failing me here. I remember measuring for them and laying them out but I don't recall how I decided where they needed to be. I think its pretty obvious when you start looking at things. I didn't have decent original hinges, I used a pair of hinges from a late model truck (mid 80's).
Along the same lines, my tailgate is a mish-mash of parts also. The upper and lower rails of my tailgate were completed hosed. I used some 3/4 EMT (electrical conduit) to replace the upper and lower rolls. I also had to refabricate the complete outer edge of the tailgate. https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...?albumid=25568
My bed floor isn't exactly stock either. I used the bed floor from a 2005 GMC. due to it having its own structure under the floor it raised my floor about 1 1/2" or so.
