The day I found the console in the junk yard I was really after seats.... The navigator has a pretty sweet rear console but I passed it up because the whole reason I wanted a second row bucket set up is to make a permanent home for my ARB fridge/freezer.
Almost done with the rear setup.... Just need to finish the cover for my amps which I moved.
Originally planned to cover the top in leather but the new paint job is growing on me.
Pirate is that a TP holder on the front of the ARB??? ;-)
LoL, it can be whatever you want it to be, Magazine rack, TP holder, hitch the old lady to it, whatever .... but ARB intended it to be the carry handle.
Has this project died? I am following this hoping to finish mine up
Nope, nobody was really asking questions and it fell of the page so I just let it go. A few people doing the mod sent me PMs with the questions they had and I answered those.
I think I have a few more build pics but other then that it is just mounted up in the ex . . I am currently making another leather top
During the test fit of the console i noticed that i was going to have about and 1-1/2 gap on the back side where it meets the floorboard. Did you have this problem.
The expedition and the navigator share the same console base and the difference is in the inserts and trim.
There are 2 styles of bases that I know of. The slender base like mine which is used with seats with arm rest and the wide base which is used in vehicles without armrest seats. The wide base center consol is a new design and is more square and has a larger storage compartment and retractable rear cup holders.
As you you can see from the pics that USCG posted the fit is close but what keeps it from being even closer is the trash bag hook sticking out a little.
My plan is to shave the hook of the panel. The expedition also uses a piece of trim to fill the small gap, you can see it in my pic of parts.
The factory mounts do not line up with the excursion bolt holes so I will just put a few blind nuts in so I can use the mounts.
There is a gap along the floor in the forward part and my plan is to just make a simple fill plate. No big deal
When I got my console the side pockets were busted and I later found a grey console so I just nabbed the pockets and painted them.
You can also see where I have 4 carling switch mocked up and 2 gauges as well as a spot for the race radio
What model year did the narrow base one from from? I would love to try and find one at a good price, the stock console in my 2003 EB has way too much wasted room in the compartment and I would like this type instead even though its not an exact match.

I will work on finding some pics but I I trimmed the bottom lip off of the front where it makes contact with the tunnel as much as I could without making it notacible, maybe 1/2 inch, that lowered the front enough that I can get the consol under the cigarette lighter. The back stuck up about 3" off the and left a huge looking gap because of how the floor is shaped and the back profile for the console. Nehemiah I was fitting it with out the seats it was driving me crazy and I spent a day making a filler plate that turned out horrible. Had to throw the seats in to drive it the next day.low and behold wth the seats in you can't really tell there is a gap so I just left it.
I suggest level the console to your liking and mount it, I doubt you can see the gap.

Most of it from a 99 navigator but also some parts off assorted expys.
So, I just finished leather dyeing the tops of my front and rear consoles. I went black, because the tan was done. Actually, I originally tried to dye them to match the wood accents in the Ex, but the color turned out more purple that I liked. So now they are black, and black goes with everything
Additionally, all the USB/Power ports just arrived via DHL from China. Over the next month, I will be fabing up needed mounting plates, then the consoles should be ready for instal.

My seats are still in while I am mounting this. I just figured out that I am using the wide base model. It has the cools Retractable cup holders in the rear. It fits in tight with the armrest down. I got it out of a pick and pull. I also just realized that I didn't grab the brackets to mount it to the floor.
to install the USBs and 110 volt outlets. Can you shed some light on how you built the new panel for the USBs and 110 Volt outlets? I was planning on using Aluminium. Looks like its back to the drawing board
I used a piece of 1/8" MDF to make my panel. But alunium, plastic or whatever you have the tools to make it from will work fine.
I cut it to size and painted it to match. It attaches to the console with the same screws as the factory control panel. For paint I used a satin enamel that matched.
