Just inherited an 1990 F350 4x4 automatic lwb regular cab with 460 engine. It is quite a climbing and torque beast. Has 173,000 mostly hwy miles and still is very strong. Gas mileage is 7.5 - 9.5. Is this about all it will get? It is mostly in town in a rural AZ area. It also has 4.10L gears. Thanks for any response.
That seems a little low. But if it's mostly town driving it's probably about right. I get 9-10 with my F-250 CCSB 4WD 460, E4OD, 4.10 gears. That's "suburban commuting". A lot of short freeway drives with the rest around town. It goes up to a solid 10 on the freeway
Youve got a c6 I believe. No od button, right. You'll lose a couple mpg without the lockup converter and overdrive the e4od offers. The c6 is less prone to problems and way cheaper to rebuild though.
That's about as good as it gets for the most part. Might try a good tune up and push the timing ahead a degree or two. Not sure advancing the timing will help but you can always set it back. I had a 75 3/4 ton and got 10 pretty consistently. It had a 3.73 rear.
I believe by 1990 all of the heavy duty trucks had the E4OD as the stock auto trans, but unless it's a bare bones model I doubt it has the C6. The E4OD with 4.10s are a real good torque/mileage balance
