1988 F350 460ci Bad Mileage!

Trying this thing out. My truck is a crew cab long bed 4x4. I have the stock tires with 4.10 and C-6 trans. I would expect 10mpg unloaded, but, with normal driving I am getting 6.73 on my last 16 gallons. I just bought it so I cant say this is a all of the sudden thing. I have no check engine light, and engine power feels right. Any ideas?

Well I don't know enough to be sure, but if it's 4x4 crew cab long bed, it's a heavy beast and won't be getting good mileage, even for a 460.

However, are you driving it mostly in town or on the highway? With a truck like that, town versus highway can make a big difference.

6 liter tune up
side gapped plugs

With 4.10 gears if u r on the highway often try to keep it around 2300 w/ overdrive. I have 4.10's w/ a 460 and boy do i enjoy watching the gas gauge go down when i drive above 70. i try to ride about 23-2500 rpms and have consistant 10.8 mpg, almost 11.

Oh toss some sea foam in both tanks, suck some up through the brake booster hose and make sure all pulleys spin freely and arent creating any unnecessary drag on the motor. dont expect to much from the 460 w/ 4.10's. its ment for hauling. definitely not for DD

No overdrive. I fill tank up. Then reset trip meter. Then when tank is empty i fill up. Read how much fuel i put back into the tank. Then divide miles traveled by fuel required to refill.

I have an F350 with 460, 4.10, auto with o/d. retired uhaul. I'm getting about the same fuel mileage. I don't use her every day, though. She's a work truck, so for now, I just suck it up when I need to pull, tug, move, haul or otherwise transport something.

The reason i suspect that 7 is bad is my other truck gets a solid 10 mpg, its carbrated, runs like crap, and is a c6 also. Sometimes i can get as good as 12. Same ratio and tires.

Thats better than what I'm getting. I use my truck mostly in town at 40mph or less. I usually see 4-6mpg.

I average 1500 miles a year.....so i'm not to worried. Not sure what others are getting with their f350 custom single cab, 460, 4x4 , DRW , 10ft dump w/ central hydraulics plumbed for plow and sander. I do have od , but rarely use it.
