I am currently looking at a 09 F 150 Super crew 4wd and the guy before me had a tool box on it with 3 holes drilled into the rail. Traded truck in and removed box now leaving 3 holes per side on the rail. I was wondering if a box that was on a 03 Super Crew would fit. Currently truck is being detailed before I pick it up and can't measure anything right now. Thanks for input.

The bed dimensions from 1997-2014 are the same according to the Peragon folks that I got my bed cover from.
It should fit but the holes may not line up. I quit drilling holes to mount a toolbox years ago. Now I just use J bolts and have never had any issues unless you slam a heavy object into the box.

Yup, the J bolt was my next comment. I bought my old '88 used and it had a really nice cross bed box. The moron felt it necessary to drill 2 holes on each side to mount it.
I'm sitting here thinking, and I'll have to look tomorrow, I'm not sure if I did J hooks or drilled holes in the bed rail. It's been almost 6 years since I got the truck and mounted the box... Maybe I will be mildly surprised
Some things to consider before leaping on the 03 supercrew box. 1. The 09 truck was offered with both the 5.5' box and a 6.5' box with the supercrew cab. The 03 was only offered with the 5.5' box with the supercrew cab. 2. The body lines of the 03 truck are completely different from the 09 truck and will look like hell in my opinion. 3. Even though the inside dimensions of the boxes are the same, you'll have to check the arch of the bedsides to cabs to ensure they will not contact. After all the bedsides ever since the 97 MY design extended up to fit snugly around the rear of the cab. IIRC the 97-03/04 heritage truck has a more pronounced arch at the front of the bedsides to the cab then the "new" style 04-14 trucks have.
Something else to consider and far cheaper then replacing the entire box. Would be to just replace the place bed rail caps. It'll hide the holes and look as good as new. And while you have the old caps off you can get some touch up paint and brush touch the bare rusty metal edges of the holes to prevent further rusting.
