Belated good evening Oregon and everyone everywhere else. Basement at the farm flooded - sump pump was plugged up - so I have been spending most of last night and today out there. Got the sump pump unplugged and pumping but it isn't pumping near fast enough to satisfy me. I think it is only pumping about 25% of it rated capacity. Going to try and get some sleep now and tackle it again tomorrow. Mother is resisting the idea of new sump pump, but she may not have a choice. Sister and BIL, as usual, seem to be no help at all.
Hi all.......didn't get above freezing here today.....then started snowing around 3:00 for an hour or so. Now we have barely an inch of snow.....looks like that's it for the night.
Not much else happening, it seems.
Belated good morning Oregon and everyone everywhere else. Slept in this morning and it felt good. Worries me a little bit that there haven't been any calls from the ranch, but I'll take the peace and quiet wherever and whenever I can get it.
Time to get going. Need to get back out to the ranch see and if the basement has completely pumped out or if I'm going to have to plumb in a new sump pump...
Belated good evening Oregon and everyone everywhere else. Ended up going to town and getting a new sump pump for the ranch house basement. 4200 gph / 70 gpm on a 0 rise discharge. Had to change out the discharge plumbing (Have I ever mentioned how much I hate plumbing?) to 1 1/2" as the old pump and system was 1 1/4". Had all but the sump room floor pumped out in a couple of hours. Mother is now a much happier camper.
Would have been all pumped out, and much faster, but ran into another little problem and I haven't decided exactly how or when I'm going to tackle that one. This is an old set up from the 1890's. A 3" red clay pipe runs from the sump room about 300 feet where it discharges on the side of a small hill above the creek. The 1 1/2" plastic discharge pipe slides about 50' down this old 3" clay. Apparently somewhere between 50 and 300 +/- feet, the clay pipe is partially plugged up so I am getting back flow out of the clay pipe. While we are pumping about 70 gpm out of the sump room, we are getting what I would estimate to be about 25 gpm back flow out of the clay pipe back into the sump room. This one is going to be a fun one to figure out I'm afraid.
