Hello,
I have a 2003 F-150 Xlt crew Cab 2x4. It currently has 255/70r16 tires on it. They have plenty of tread but are weather cracked terribly, some of the worst I've ever seen. I know 255 is the stock size, but I was wondering if I could put some 235/70r16 tires on it. They are quite a bit cheaper, I was just wondering if they would fit. The truck is completely stock and pretty much a city truck, I never have hauled a trailer with it. This may be a ridiculous question and If it is let me know. Thanks in advance, can't wait to check out the rest of the sight!
yes you can use the 235 tires. The width will be 20 mm ( 3/4 inch) narrower, and the diameter of the tire will be 1 inch less. ( 30 inch vs 29 inch). That is about 3% so your speedo will be 3% off.... At 62 mph you will be reading 65 mph and at 97 mph you would be reading 100 mph...... Normally if you reduce the width that much, you go to the next SERIES which would be 75 instead of 70... That is the sidewall height % of the tire width.............. you can use 235 x 70 x 16 or 235 x 75 x 16 ... what ever is available.
