tire sizes
how do the tire specs compare?
ex. i have 235/75/r16 size tires on my f150. how does that compare w/ inches? like what is a 265?
also what are the biggest tires that will fit on a 94 f150 2wd?

235/75-16
235 is the width of the tire in Millimeters
75 is the side wall height as a percentage of tread width, In your case 75% or 176.25 MM
Obviously 16 is the rim size
The 265 would be 30 Millimeters (approximately 1.25")wider with a 198.75mm side wall height or 75% of 265.
If you wanted to changes tires for a wider width and still have the same (or close) side wall height you could use a 265/65-16
maybe this will help

Almost forgot to answer you question...
235 is (235 Divided by 25.4 MM/Inch = 9.25)
265 is 10.43"
Tire size to fit a 2wd? I am not sure maybe a 30 or 31" tire 10" wide? Some of the other folks may be able to help you there..

Nope... A 265/65-16 and a 265/75-16 will have the same tread width.
A 265/65-16 will be wider than your current 235/75-16 though..
I know...its confusion at it's finest

You're tire size shouldn't be 235/75/16....it shoudl be 235/75/15....the F-150s have 15" wheels. You can fit a 31/10.5/15 on there as the largest since it's only a 2wd.

I got so tired of trying to calculate this I wrote a program in Perl to do it for me. Here's the two sizes you asked about.
235/75-R16
Tire Width: 235mm (9.25")
Sidewall Height: 176.25 (6.94")
Rim Size: 406.4mm (16")
Total Tire Height: 758.9mm (29.88")
----------------------
265/75-R16
Tire Width: 265mm (10.43")
Sidewall Height: 198.75 (7.82")
Rim Size: 406.4mm (16")
Total Tire Height: 803.9mm (31.65")
Hope this helps.
