Longer wheel studs.

I bought some new wheels for my 1970 f250 4x4 and need longer wheel studs. The lug nuts only have about 3/4" of stud thread in them and I don't think that is enough.
I can find the right length and knurl size but the shoulders are different styles.
Will a different style shoulder work or not?
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

Have you looked on summit, I saw some their a couple yrs ago, then got side tracked
I've got the same problem going on about 7 yrs and not problems yet.

The dana 60 front I've seen many with the long studs. Never researched tho.

Mine has held up to the weigh of having a c/o camper on, Have since sold the camper.

Thanks for the reply Orich!
Yes I checked summit and they have the correct size but they are a different shoulder style than the stockers. Knurls are close to the head where as the stock ones have the knurls about 1/2" from the head. Do you think that would matter?
So did you just use the stock studs? About how much stud do you have in the lug nut?
Stock lug nuts are only about 3/4" thick but they are close to the hub with the steel wheel mounted. The new lug nuts have 3/4" of threads also but they are farther from the hub.
Am I worried about the studs shearing off for nothing?
Thanks!

I'm still using the oem studs with acorn the 45* tapered seat chrome type nuts.

May be about 5/8"+is being used of the threaded lug nuts so far so good.

I would not use any lug studs if not the same spines in the same location as that's that holes it from turning or strip in the hub

that's not the same

I went through a similar dilemma with my 70' 4x2. I was never able to find longer proper fitting studs for the front drum hubs. I ended up getting wheel adapters that came with longer studs. My not be the right fix for you, but might also be an unconsidered option.

I would consider that also but can't find the right length in a spacer either.

How tall of tires you going to be using ?

If you are going to be doing some bad azz fast off roading with big tall tires then have a shop resize to a longer 9/16" lugs.

I'm going with 35" tires but won't be doing any major off roading.
Where would I go to get the resize for 9/16 studs done?
Looks like it might be easier to resize the stud hole and just buy studs that fit that.

Well you have got to find a auto machine shop most likely, I come across many guys that sell at car shows that do custom work like axle re-spinning and so on.

A Napa auto parts not far from where, I use to work did do stuff like that.

Hell buy a press push out all the studs and find a little small machine shop that does Proto type shop work. Take few studs so they can drill the hubs/rotors then you push them all in.

I find great little proto machine shops by asking.

Where I get my drive shaft work done. Those guys have a need to know where to get stuff done if their a good shop that really try's to help there customers.

You know they are always being asked to do custom work. So hit your loco drive line shop pick their brain..
