Does anyone know where i can get the 1/2 - 20 thread wheel studs for my 1975 F250 that are longer than original so that i can mount my aftermarket wheels. Once I put on the new wheels, i don't have enough thread sticking through to put on the lug nuts. Thanks.
The front stud knurls are .628" and the rear stud knurls are .608"
Napa had stock replacement ones, but didn't know where i'd find longer replacement ones.
In many cases the studs do not have to be changed. You will need longer lug nuts, but not longer wheel studs.
Most aluminum wheels with a thick center will require a specialty lug nut that is available at any tire and wheel shop.
Acorn style wheel lug nuts are not correct, and you may just need some shank style lug nuts.
Using the wrong lug nut will result in an improper torque, and you run the risk of the wheel falling off.
Get the correct fasteners, and you will not have to replace all of the studs.
Thanks for your help. But i've already researched the lug nut style by taking my rims in to two different tire shops. The rims require the acorn style lug nut, but when the rim is put on the lugs, they don't stick through enough to put the nut on. The rims are American Racing Baja polished aluminum and the bolt holes are tapered, requiring the acorn lugs.
