Back in like 03 or something like that, i didnt want to drive my nice F150 on the horrible iowa salt covered roads, so every fall i would buy a beater, run it all winter, and sell it in the spring. That particular year was a 1989 Chevy S10, regular cab shortbox, 2wd. It had an odd stumble, so i went and found an S10 forum to help solve my issue.
The s10 place i found (www.s10planet.com , which no longer exists) was actually a friendly place, even to a fold guy who had a screen name of "TheEnemy". I enjoyed chatting with the guys there, i found myself liking my little s10, and I was accepted into the fold when i did a few low buck suspension mods to make the truck lower and quicker turning.
One day, while over visiting family in Illinois, i got a call from my college buddies asking me to pick up some booze for his party that night. I found out just how much booze could fit into that old s10 bed.
I was chatting with my s10 buddies about the adventure, and they decided that i would name my truck "The Bootlegger's Deluxe". i did have some other, much more adventuresome adventures in that truck. Soon, i became known as "the bootlegger" or "Boot", and the truck became known as "the Deluxe"
the name was unique enough that I kept it for all these years. it's my handle on basically everything nowadays.
And, for those wondering, i still have the Deluxe. He's now just the front half of the frame, getting a rear suspension and axle out of a Corvette, with a 1950 F series cab on it, and getting a big block ford/4 speed combo. The Deluxe has turned into a rat rod project, because I can't seem to let my old friend go.
Mine might not be as exciting. I own and drive 2 Subaru Foresters. I joined the cult of Subaru approximately 16 years ago, and founded the largest Forester specific automotive forum in the world. Sold the forum, kept the cars, and while one is barely broken in with 206,000 miles on it, the other has been my faithful commuter with over 364,000 miles on the odometer.
I'm here trying to figure out the starter relay/solenoid issue, and just installed another starter solenoid to no avail.
I had been married to my junior high sweetheart for 36 years (OK... I'm old) when she was killed in a traffic accident (she was alone in the car) in March of 2008. If a good friend and band-mate at church hadn't asked for and taken my firearms that first evening, I might not be here, either. With the support of family and friends, I made it through those dark times to meet and marry another wonderful woman. Thus, I was given a "Second Chance."
