Vibration like a rough road

I have a 2001 F350 4X4 SRW 7.3 that has a vibration. The first time I noticed it was after hitting a dip in the road at about 55 MPH. Felt like I was on a rough road. It stopped when I slowed to pull over to check it out. Didn`t see anything visible but started again after hitting another bump. Bumps seem to make it go away too. Does it without hitting a bump also. Pulled the drive shaft but looks ok. Don`t feel it in the steering wheel or the transfer case shifter. Knocking it into neutral doesn`t help either.

vibration

I would start by looking at drive line u joint, may be worn, and bumps are knocking it tight or loose, and back again, had something similar before, gas on OK , braking OK , and some vibration in between, until one day coasting down long grade it really went and a bout shook u joint out, when I hit the gas again,
good luck,,Todd

Thanks Todd...I took the truck to a friend of mine just down the road that runs a transmission shop...He actually had replaced the transmission about 3 years ago... When I went back to check on it he said he had taken the drive shaft out and checked it and didn`t find anything wrong that he could see. He did put some kind of grease stuff, he had gotten from Ford that he`d used on a Ranger 2 piece shaft with a similar symptom before, in between the shafts...That didn`t work. The Ford dealership had replaced the saddle bearing about 6 months ago. I`ve talked to the guy that made the drive shafts for our monster truck, and he said he had not run into this problem from how I was describing it. I still may take the shafts to him for closer inspection.

Hitting a bump in the road will do nothing to the driveshaft. You need to look at the ball joints and steering components. Something there is not right. Look at the tire and wheel for damage. Look at the inside for lumps .

You have "Deathwobble"

I just cured this on my 2010 250. It was the track bar bushing. Cost me 20 dollars at NAPA. Needed a 30 ton press to change the actual bushing.

With your truck running and in park, lay on the ground in front of your truck and have someone turn the steering wheel back and forth. If the front axle has movement but the body stays still, it's the track bar bushing. Good luck.

Thanks PinkyRingz, but not a wobble.....It`s more of a fine vibration. And it`s not consistent.

I would also check your wheel bearings while you are at it. I had this happen on both my '99 (at 164k) and '04 (at 80k). After new wheel bearings and ball joints, everything was good to go.
