Grinding floorboard vibration

Hello all. I have a pretty good vibration going on in my floorboard. I start to get it at around 55mph, and it is VERY pronounced at 60MPH +, at approx 2000 rpm. If I really step on it, I can feel it too. But with just normal in no hurry accelerating, I get the vibrations at the speeds above. I have had the front shaft u joints replaced. All of which I can be greased now. Transfer case has good fluid quantity. I had the guy check the rear shaft too, and it was fine. Would the front wheel bearings do this? There may be a hum as I feel the vibration. I know I have a ripped boot on the drivers side outer tie rod end, and I have to keep greasing it. Perhaps this may be an issue. Though I do not feel anything in the steering. It is all under my feet. Any ideas? Has anyone had anything like this? All of my searches have pretty much focussed on u joint issues, and a drive shaft guy checked and repaired them as needed. Thanks, TOM

Did this start happening right after the front u-joints were replaced? If so, take it back to who ever did it. They may have missed something.

If you have a 2 piece rear drive shaft the center bearing and/or slip joint can cause some wierd vibrations.

Also look to see if your downpipe or exhaust is hitting your firewall or floorboard. Is it factory exhaust?

If it's a 5spd, could it be the flywheel?

I am not sure with the 4wd Ford, but I have burned out a 2 wheel bearings in some dodge 2wd, and it kinda sounds like running over the little rumble strips on the shoulder of the road, but doesn't do it constantly, UNTIL the race is gone and the bearings begins to weld itself together, this has been ny experience.

But, since acceleration has an effect on it, I would bet its the carrier bearing in the rear driveline, from my experience.

Good Luck

I have not figured out setting up the signiture yet. I have a '97 F350 4x4 w/7.3 Turbodiesel, AOD, auto hubs.
No it is not in 4 wheel drive, and hubs are unlocked. The vibration was there before u joints were worked on. The drive shaft place checked both front and rear shafts and repaired fronth shaft issues. The rear was fine. Sounds like I could use a second opinion on the drive line. I will have to check exhaust.

sounds just like the rear u-joint to me. best way to check is put the truck in neutral with the parking brake set. Grab you drive shaft looking at the ujoint closely twist. If you see any slack in the sides of the ujoint then its bad. Most of the time its the ujoint that is closest to the rear. Especially if you have a singlecab 350 like mine

I have something similar happening. IT sounds like a grinding comming from underneath my feet.I can hear it and feel it. It does not happen constantly only when I have been on the throttle hard pulling steep grades. Mine is the TC, I am almost certain. Just something to think about. I have the same pickup you do without the auto hubs.

Just a newbies 2 cents

I'd agree with the auto hubs, the manuals are lot better course will run you about 175-225 if i remember right to swap them out.
