When I get my '72 F150 up to about 50mph, it suddenly begins to shake VIOLENTLY, the first time it happened I thought I was going to die. I feel the shaking mostly in the steering wheel. Once started the vibration doesn't quit until back down around 20mph. Whats going on here?
Really bad steering joint, or u-joints, my joints were loose, and the whole truck had a constant vibration thru-out at around the same speed. Is your steering jerking you around side to side when you hit ruts, or potholes?
I had a truck that someone installed the wrong size pitman arm on (alittle loose). If you hit a pothole around 45-50 mph You'd lose any control over steering or brakes and usually run off the road. It sounded and felt like you were going to die.
check out your front end and maybe your drive shaft is outta' balance. it also can be your wheels are outta' balance , maybe you need some wheel weights?
