Installing starter drive/bendix on 1964 & earlier
Many of the starters don't come with the drive & has to be bought separately. Is there any trick to doing this or do I need something pressed on by a shop? Also the originals have a spring on the end but the one sold now don't so does that make things easier or complicate it?

Yes, there's kind of a trick to it. By compressing the bendix hard against something (eat your Wheaties) you can expose enough of the pin securing it to drive it out. A vise works good. Installation is the same, in reverse. There are different type Bendix drives, so long as it is the right part # it should work.

Yep, the vise works good for that. Can kind of twist it pretty good against the jaws, won't hurt anything, and gives a free hand to drive out the pin. An assistant wouldn't hurt, I suppose.
Bought an NOS bendix to go with a new DB electrical starter. Figured at that point, NOS solenoid and new cables would be a treat, too. She spins nice now!
