Remove bendix drive from a Y-block starter
Can anyone tell me how to remove the bendix drive from a 1957, 312 Starter, all I know is its the newer style drive but I cannot figure out how to swap it to the new starter!

It's real easy if it's not rusted on. I did it today just to see if I remembered how . Stand the starter on it's end with the spring facing up. Put on some gloves or wrap a rag around it or you may pinch your hand like I did, because I forgot that could happen . Push down on the spring about 3/4 of an inch and you will see a pin. remove the pin, they are not tight most of the time as they are covered while in use. Release the spring slowly , then slide the whole assembly off of the shaft. Install it on the new starter in the same way ,replace the pin and you are ready to install the starter.
