The first time I removed my fan it was tight as h*ll and I started to distort the pulley holes due to the force. I went ahead and used my pneumatic hammer and punch on a flat to get it off. Yeah, not kosher, but I was able to dress the nut afterwards so it was fine. Since then I have only installed it hand tight so it's been easy to get off yet never had any problem with the connector backing off.
With the shroud out of the way, I have gotten them off with a large pipe wrench. It will be on a very slight angle, pulling from the passenger side from the top. Aside from a couple marks on the nut there was no damage to anything. Once it breaks lose it spins the rest of the way off easily. Not my first choice on how to do it, just saying it can be done.

Contemplating doing that if the fil has one long enough.
