Be careful with the quarter or retainer clip mod with updated Ford harnesses or international. They are upgraded and have short bridges to support the latch. I tried using the retainer clips but the bridges are in the way.
If you're that scared of the quarter, just clean and superglue the connection. The plug sliding loose 1/16" or 1/8" isn't going to affect the connection of the wiring. The connection isn't that high tech.

Good info! I tried the quarter on those too and decided the better design mitigated the need for it. I can say I have never had a truck come back for VC gasket issues. I have done the $0.50 mod, new Ford/Int'l gaskets and UVCH's or my favorite for the last couple of years - the Dorman units with integrated UVCH's. And, the Dorman's have a lifetime warranty if one does fail.

I have always threatened to do that, but feared the superglue would not survive in this environment... I pictured little chunks of superglue falling into the oilpan.
There are Dorman VC gaskets with solid connections to the UVCH - no plug and jack. I have no direct experience with these, but I hear good things - it's worth a little homework before making the call.
I had a "noisy" connection when I had the problem in question:
I bought new OEM UVCHs, and the fit was very tight. As time rolled on and I kept popping VCs, even the new OEM connections started getting a little sloppy and I had to do the 50-cent mod to tighten things back up. I suspect I have a set of Dormans in my future.
Scott bought new OEM VC gaskets, and the outer connectors were too sloppy to use. We can't seem to win here.

I bought 2 brand new ones as Rich mentioned and was dumb founded at how bad it was. Brand new international gasket too. We had to put the old one back on which clipped in nicely and had nothing wrong with them as they were only 2-3 years old, bought new OEM just for a piece of mind.
