Door panel insert removal

Just curious if anyone has a good solution for removing the push nut that goes over the little plastic studs on the Lariet door panel inserts without damage to the plastic studs. The drivers door window handle obviously had more use than the passenger side. May not of had the plastic washer under the handle either. Need to get them re-done so they look all Purdy.

Snip the retainers with side cutters then replace with new.

I tried a few different ways to get the push nuts off with no success, the plastic studs are very brittle & all snapped off at the slightest touch. I ended up breaking all the studs off & using double sided tape to hold the panels back on. They've been on for a couple of years & haven't moved at all.

I did have one Lariat panel that had a badly deteriorated plastic back panel. It was cracked in many pieces. I got a sheet of door panel backer board from my local upholstery guy & cut a new panel. I glued the material on with high grade contact cement. It worked out great.

I used a roll of 1/4" wide chrome pinstriping tape to replicate the chrome finish on the lower "grill" area of the door panel.

Your panels already look better than most!

The panels are in good shape except for that one insert. I'll try the snip method on those push nuts tomorrow and post my results or lack of them. I was going to pick up a silver leaf pen from Hobby Lobby and try that on the chrome strips. If that doesn't work, the pinstriping will be my next choice.

I used an air cut off tool to cut the tin nuts on mine. Worked pretty good.

After attempting to snip those nuts off with not much luck, I used my die grinder with small cut-off wheel to get them off. Thanks for the tips guys.
