Mine is not locking again. I removed the lock, cleaned and lubricated it about 6 mos. ago and now it is not locking again. It's not the actuator as I can't "key" lock it either. Any tips to buy me more than 6 mos per cleaning. It's a pain pulling the lock part out the only opening bc there is about 2mm of clearance to get it in and out.
Thanks in advance
Maybe try a different lubricant or use some white lithium grease for better results? I used TriFlow industrial lubricant and worked that in, then followed up with CRC white lithium grease and have had great, lasting results with it. At first I had to be pretty forceful to get the mechanism going, but now no issues.
We have so much fine silty dust in the air (here in Nevada), that any kind of grease will just turn into mud real quick- I use dry graphite or silicone spray.
Actuator had not slid out, cleaned and lubricated the mechanism with no luck. If I turn the key counterclockwise and hold the key in that position the hatch will not open when lifting the latch. However, when the key goes to the 12 o'clock position the latch will open. I will try and repeat the process again tomorrow and if all else fails see if I can find a new lock mechanism
Only use dry lubricant, anything else attracts more problems than it solves. I use powdered graphite.
Mine wasn't locking and when I disassembled the hatch to install new glass seal I saw that one of the fasteners was loose and causing slight misalignment. Fixed it when reassembling and have had zero problems since. If yours won't work with the key I'd encourage checking it to see if it's binding or what.
Pushed the actuator in all the way, used dry lubricant, etc.- no luck. I removed the actuator and was able to key-lock it fine. I put a new actuator on and had the same problem- it put just enough tension on the mechanism to not allow it to lock. Long story short I removed the actuator and will manually lock/unlock when I need too unless I find more patience and desire to see this through.
Side note- I wonder how many excursions are out there unlocked without the owners having any idea?

At least one...mine.
Came out of Lowe's on Saturday with a load of home goodies, opened the rear hatch, put all said goodies in the cargo area. Wife eases over to her door and says, "Can you unlock the doors?"
I swear, if it can go wrong with an Excursion it has gone wrong with mine. I thought Land Rovers had crappy electrical systems....
I have an 01 X with the 7.3. The rear hatch actuator went out on mine last year. I bought the OEM replacement (which is a plastic Motorcraft piece of crud---not as well built as the original actuator), replaced it, and it still does not work. I even had my locksmith buddy take a look and he tried the lubrication thing and still no luck. I just lock it manually and have gotten into the OCD habit of always checking to make sure it's locked.
