I am going to take out the sliding rear window in my truck and put it back in with a new weatherstrip / rubber seal. Should I use a sealer along with the new rubber seal ? what type of sealer ? where does it go ? between the rubber and the body sheet metal ?
You shouldn't need to use any other type of sealant with the rear window seal. I didn't use any when I replaced mine a year and a half ago and it's been fine. The window seal fits very tightly and does the job of sealing on it's own.
Thats what I was thinking, but I had a new windshield put in and the installer used a sealer along with the new weatherstrip and windsheld. My wife and I have done these before in older trucks we soap them up she pushes while I pull the cord on the inside.
Soap it up. Put rope in the seal. Do it so the ends of the rope meet at the bottom of the window. Set the bottom in. Then have another person push from the outside while you pull the rope which will pull the seal to the inside of the truck securing the window in place. Do a little on the left. Then the right. Keep switching back and forth until your done.
