I put 911 in and jumped it since I had tried to start it so many times the batteries were weak. I finally got it started and home. I put it on the charger. I am hoping that in this cold they will charge? I am really questioning myself on why I bought a diesel right now. So far nothing but more trouble for me.

My problem today was after it had been parked at work all day in 5 degree temps. I do not have access to a plug at work. I didn't test the glow plugs. It's cold.

Just for the fun of it will you take a picture of the GPR so we can see if all the wires are where they should be. I don't remember if you ever said you have checked the wiring to the starter to make sure they are clean. Have the grounds been cleaned to the frame and the block. Does the starter turn the engine over quickly? I know that my truck would not start in 5* weather without being plugged in due to the fact my batteries are done and the starter is slow in turning and my injectors are wore out.

Try the red bottel of diesel klean 911 for emergency's. I have been putting I the white bottle with each fill up. Approximately 20 oz at a time give or take and over here in western new York we have had a few days down into the single digits when I go to turn the truck over. I have yet to even plug in. Try this for now, this company y also sells an oil addative I believe that should do the trick as well.

Hope this helps man.

I'm thinking that if it started at all in 5* weather that the glow plugs must be working somewhat or it wouldn't have started at all without being plugged in. Am I wrong?

Yes absolutely. I let them do at least one glow cycle then turn her over. If I could plug in I would but my apartment doesn't have any external outlets. The only other option is to plug into my landlords garage and pay them for the draw. But I don't know how to even calculate my consumption.

Test your batteries INDIVIDUALLY both voltage and a load test. As mentioned clean all terminals and check grounds.
I park my truck at a storage yard, I have a timer set up for block heater. I give the guy an extra $25/ month to plug it in...less than a $1/day. He appreciates the extra money and I appreciate him letting me plug it in. And with the timer I don't feel like I'm taking advantage of him either.
Regarding options of plugging the truck in, until I figure out my Cold start issues, i've considered everything from a heavy duty jump box to a small Honda inverter generator just in case the truck won't start.

This will explain how to test GPR.
Remember your GPR will cycle up 100 seconds. I did the LED mod on my GPR and it really makes you understand just how long the glow plugs cycle when the vehicle is cold, and even once it's warmed up.

I work in a huge factory and no outlets anywhere nearby. The white bottle of 911 did the trick. I will be switching my oil to Rotella T6 5w-40 tomorrow which should help some. Since it will be in the 30s for one day I will try and test/take pictures of everything suggested here.

The truck does have 197k miles on it and I am sure the injectors and glow plugs are probably original. I have no clue on the history of this truck or what it was used for.

If UPS delivers my other 3 gallons on time today I will be changing the oil to Rotella T6. I also got a new filter and a fumoto drain plug to install.

Sounds good, I'm starting good at 24* but it wouldn't start at 19* yesterday without being plugged in. How would one know if the starter was not spinning as fast as it could? Can I check the amperage draw somehow? My batteries and alternator seem to be in good shape.

Torque pro app with RPM selected you need a minimum of 100 RPM, ICP near 500, and 10.2-10.5 amps for the truck to start.

No Android phone in this house but I suppose I could fire up the AE and get that data, thanks.

Good choice on the Fumoto, it is a small investment with a big reward.

I had one for years but when I had my oil pan replaced, I got rid of mine. It is a pain in the butt and drains so slowly...

I'm guessing that the fumoto is an easy on/easy off valve for when you can't just use a big ol' bucket?
