Hey all so I just got my f3 on the road and took it for a drive. Did the tranny fluid and filter last week. Checked the level after driving a bit and it was below the crosshairs. So I added less than a quart to bring it to the crosshairs. Took it for a little longer drive and the overdrive light flashes. Also the trans temp was rising more than half way. Brought it back and went to check the level again and there was so much pressure in the dipstick that trans fluid shot out! A good amount too. I'm stumped on this one. Also it is shifting up kind of hard too. Thanks for the help guys I appreciate it!
My speedo isn't working either so in my research I found it could be a speed sensor in the rear diff causing the od light and hard shifting. Pulled the flor plate off and the breather definitely looks crusty so after work I'm fixing that and replacing the speed sensor then adding some fluid and see what happens. I'll update later whether it fixed it or not.
well i made sure the breather was clear today and ran a tube from it to the engine bay, also replaced the speed sensor in the rear diff. brought the fluid in the tranny up to normal and it still did not fix the issue. takes forever to shift and is a hard shift. once it does shift the first time the check engine light comes on and od light starts to flash. going to get the code read asap. the tranny temp seems to be going up too. (the only gauges that work are the trans temp, tach, and battery.) didn't drive it more than a quarter mile becuase i don't want to wreck anything. and didn't get to more than 35. any help from anyon eelse with experience on this problem would be much appreciated! thanks guys!
As stated by Mark previously. .....check for codes.
You emptied your wallet for a VSS for no reason.
The previous owner said he had the same problem and thats what fixed it for him. That's the reason I went there first. And it was 23 bucks so didn't really hurt too bad. I did however figure out the issue. The trailer wires are cut off and there was a ground not connected with them. I realized it went to the same harness as the speed sensor. Running and driving great now. Bad speedo was a fuse. So maybe that had something to do with it too? Either way it's having no issues now.
