I have a 1994 f150 193k of hard pulling miles with 302 gas and not sure if aode or 4rw70 transmission here's the story. the temp gauge for tranny says it running way high and the moter feel way hotter then before my overdrive on the shifter is flashing intermittently but most every time I drive it. The trans fluid looks good yet but it's starting to smell burnt so I'm getting a trusted trans guy to look at it. I'm thinking it's needing to be replaced. My question is one, do you agree it will need work done and two if so can anyone think of anything else a guy should get done while the transmission is off the truck? I'm thinking new rear main seal change transfer case fluid, can anyone think of somthing else I should do while it's off? Any help is appreciated alot.
There are a few trans gurus on here that can help you diagnose the problem but I believe they would tell you to check for codes first. The OD light flashing is the same thing as the check engine light coming on.
No clue on the fluid change. Guy I bought it from worked at a bank so probably not. I have put about 30k miles on it and changed the fluid once when I bought it. I thought about the codes but I don't have a scanner and was going to bring it up to the my transmission guy. How would a guy check old school codes line that? Count the flash intervals of the overdrive light?
