I am picking up and '88 F250/460/auto dually. In PA they ask for what weight tag do you want. I'll be towing an open 18' trailer with a a 3000lbs car and about an additional 1000lbs of extras. Can't find a weight for this truck. Oh, for those of you that will tell me that a 1988 F250 dually doesn't exist, well I have one with all the documentations. Thanks
My '97 F-250 crew cab short box 460, auto 4WD, with a fiberglass topper weighs about 6600 lbs empty.
Dually would be heavier
If yours is long box that would be heavier
If yours is 2WD that would be lighter
If yours doesn't have a topper that would be lighter.
Go to a grain scale - they usually openly weigh our stuff for us. For us it's Harvest Land, but I'm sure it'll be different. They're not spot on, but pretty close.
You will need to have the weight certified. Truck scales is your best bet. The tires weigh about 75lbs each. The spare and the 2 outside duals can be taken off to lighten it up. Been there in Kalifornia. My 90 F350 Dually weighs in @ 5950.

it does NOT have be be an exact weight, they want a best Guesstimate
6,500lbs is close for the truck
3,000lbs car
2,500lb trailer
1,000lbs of extras

13,000lbs
That would put you in class 5(11,001 - 14,000lbs)
Personally I would register it in class 6(14,001 -17,000lbs)
just to be on the safe side or if you are loaded heavier or hauling something heavier
Or find a truck stop with a Cat scale. That would be your most accurate option. They will pay for an overweight ticket for truckers if their scales were wrong. They keep them well calibrated.

I think Diesel Brad answered the question, but I am not sure how he got to that answer. Does the new owner reside in PA and the truck is being purchased there or is he or the truck out of state ? When I buy tags for a truck in MI, they do not ask if I plan to haul anything with it or how much that could possibly weigh ......
