I am in the process of trying to buy a house. I currently have a 2006 f250 6.0 power stroke. I think im going to have to sell it and down grade a little so I have some extra cash. I found a 1997 f-350 with 120,000 miles on it and was considering going to check it out. I have a few things that will be very important in making my decision. I drag race and my car and trailer together weigh probably 6,000 lbs at most I don’t see that being a problem for this truck. My main concern is what is the weight on the title of these trucks it is an f-350 regular cab 8' bed. I live in New York and the only way to get around is park ways and if you have a truck over 5500 lbs you have to get commercial plates and you can’t ride the park ways. Also is there anything I should know about these trucks that go wrong or any re-accruing problems. Thanks <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
yeah i know but that is why i wanted to try and get a truck with some ***** and that could ride the park way. is that the weight that is on the title 6,000 lbs and i love those box style trucks

I dont know how NY is, but in NJ and PA the least amount of weight i have seen on a title is 5000. But that is also your GVCW meaning it has to be more or equal to the truck, trailer and what is on the trailer weight. If you are over the Registered weight, you get a BIG ticket.
And I am sure when they see you on the parkway grossing 12,000lbs they will pull you over and see you are only registered for 5000 and give you one ticket for being over weight and another for being on the parkway with the truck
I know the parkways in jersey the weight limit is 7,000
well i also have a 96 f250 with the 351 and i have passanger plates on that i forget what the weight is off the top of my head but it was under 5500 lbs. i am looking around and people are saying that truck is over the 5500 limit. which mine is not. yeah n.y. sucks for this kind of stuff.

Well that is wrong. That truck empty weighs about 6000lbs too with a GVW of 8600.
well i dont know what to tell you there is no way of getting past the people at dmv with a weight over 5500 lbs. i know my title says under 5500 because i wasnt going to buy the truck if i couldnt get pasanger plates
same rute i was trying to take with this truck. but i know the 460 its self must be alot heavier and it must have heavier axles right? but other than that they are the same truck arn't they?
Sounds like you could get by with an F-150 if the most you tow is 6000 lbs. Might be pushing it a little for a pre-97 F-150, but a 97+ F-150 with the 5.4 will have no problem with a 6000 pound trailer. Plus it will get far better gas mileage than an F-350 with a 460.
Don't know how the weight will work with that either though, because even an F-150 has a GVW of more than 5500 lbs.
