I think the weight that plowpusher is referring to is the "dry" weight, no gas, no passengers, etc.?.... It would make sense that Jimmy's would weigh 365 pounds more with a person, gas, any tools, etc. on board. This information is very helpful, as in all the literature I have on my 77 F250 (and I have a LOT) I cannot find the shipping weight of mine either. Plowpusher, can you tell me your source for this info. so I can also look up mine?
Thanks!
Dak
I have a 79 F150 Ranger 4x4 with 460 and was just at the truck pulls yesterday.
I weighed in at 5050lbs with me in it , I weigh 250 lbs so that makes it 4800 lbs..
Forgot to add this a Reg cab Long bed......
I have a 77 F150 short box 4X4 with a 460 and a C-6, The title said it weighed 5100 pounds. I told the sec. of state that there was no way the truck weighed that much. (they were tring to hit me with a more expensive yearly plate due to any thing over 5000 lbs. make's it a commercial vehicle) They told me to go get it weighed and bring the weight slip back so they could issue me a new title with correct weight. I went to a local certified scale and had it weighed, it was 5020 lbs. with out me in it. I removed the rear step bumper, tail gate, one of the optima batteries and made sure the fuel was real low (I actually ran out sitting on the scales) It now weighed 4680 lbs. I took that to the state and got a new title issued with the correct weight and bought plates for it for 1/3 of the cost of commercial plates. Re-installed part's that I took off and that was that. I hope this gives you an idea of your trucks weight. -Ed
to dakonthemountain the referance book I used was Standard catalog of 4x4's 1945-1993 by Robert C. Ackerson published by krause publications 700E State street,Iola,Wi 54990-0001 It says shipping weight on a 77 f250 style side long box is 4150 these weights seem a little low to me if you figure btwn 4300 to 5500 pounds its ball park must places with a scale, will scale for little or nothing. The local scap dealer around here scales for nothing my 75 f250 with plow rack and fiberglass topper and 230 lbs of me tipped in at 5430 so I thinking bare it would go in the hi 4's
There are scalehouses where I live on the highways, and when they are closed the scale readout is still on, you just gotta look through the window on the scalehouse.
Thanks for the info Plowpusher.. You reference a 4 x 4 publication though. Does the catalog also list 2 x 4s?
We can weigh here in CA for around $8 at a public scale. I did with the camper on the truck, which is why I am upgrading the rear axles. I took the camper off and will weigh again in the next few weeks. I'll post then.
