Angry Help with camshaft positioning sensor codes

I have a 2005 Lincoln Navigator, its the 5.4L triton V8.

Situation: My aunt was driving the truck when she had to suddenly apply the brakes to avoid hitting someone. The truck stalled and had to be restarted. Since that day the truck will start and usually runs fine for a few minutes. After ten minutes or so the truck will start to idle rough and when the throttle is suddenly released the truck will stall. Occasionally when the truck is started it make a really weird noise a sort of cross between a heat shield rattling and stones in a washing machine spin cycle.

Code: The truck has 5 DTC codes.
  • P0345
  • P0340
  • P0344
  • P0345 (Yes it lists it twice)
  • P0349

The codes have been clears and return with-in ten minutes of driving.

We have replace both camshaft positioning sensors, and all wire connectors have been checked for a solid tight connection. The codes were clear, and returned. Truck still idles rough and stalls. I am mechanically inclined but i am not the best with newer vehicles. I have been unable to locate a wiring diagram so haven't been able to troubleshoot the wiring harness. Does anyone know where I can obtain the wiring diagram and have any tips on resolving this situation.

What about the two Variable Cam Timing (VTC) Solenoids, have you inspected, tested, or replaced those?

Not Yet

I have not tested those yet. What would you recommend the best way to test them? I have seen some people just dumped 12v onto them and then it changes the idle, I am not certain however if this would highlight an intermittent problem.

Thank you for your assistance.

I was reminded of a valuable lesson today. Don't take someone else word for it. I resolved the problem with the truck by double checking what I asked someone else to verify early on. That is the oil level of the engine. It was 4 quotes low because the kid didn't wipe the dipstick and recheck the level. Thanks to everyone for helping.

So all of the codes are gone?

Was it ever showing low oil pressure when running? Kind of surprising fix, though it was good you caught it before it was low enough to loose oil pressure completely.
