i need help on a 2003 7.3psd

it runs fine when first cranked, then after a few miles the engine light comes on then it looses power and eventually die. but if i turn the truck off and crank back up it runs fine the repeats the same process. i have replaced fuel pump, icp sensor, cam sensor, ipr tonight and no change in running. i have also replaced the uvch. when i hook it to the computer at work i get codes p1280, p1249, p1209, p1316, p1282, p1212, and p1211. My icp at idle is between 480-540psi, ipr volt is .70-.90v at idle and ipr 7-11% at idle. could it be a bad idm or ecm? i dont know where or what to do next, any help will be greatly appreciated.

thanks, chris

If you clear the codes, do all of them come back the next time this happens, or just some of them? Since most of your codes seem to point to ICP, I would start by inspecting the wiring to the ICP sensor and the IPR to make sure you don't have any chaffed wires, or brittle insulation on one of the harnesses that might be causing a short.

not all of the codes come back, i have checked wires and they look good. have thought about bypassing the wiring harness. i thought changin the ipr would fix the problem but guess i was wrong

I wouldn't think it was the ECM or IDM as a starting point. You say you replaced the UVCH. Did you happen to replace glow plugs and injector o'rings while you had it cracked open (very cheap date) as well?

Start with the basics:
1. Oil level in the reservoir correct?
2. Clean fuel/water separator filter?
3. Oil changed recently? As in good viscosity
4. Strong batteries?
5. Strong alternator/voltage regulator?

Do a search on here for threads involving "truck suddenly dies" and do some reading oup on their eventual solutions and match'em up to what you've done or not done so far.

Do you have a chip?
Can you check fuel pressure while driving? Have you checked your oil level?
If possible, duplicate the symptom so the engine dies and immediately turn off the key (kills power to fuel pump). Then open the fuel filter housing and see how much fuel is in there. It should be full to the rim.
